PMP Certification Requirements
The requirements for PMP® certification can be confusing at first but they are clearly defined in the PMI's certification hand book. In this article we have set these out in simple terms.

The PMI sets out two sets of requirements the first for those who have a bachelor degree and those without.

If you hold a bachelor degree then the requirements for PMP certification are:

The experience spent on project management is calculated irrespective of the number of projects being managed. Lapsed time spent on multiple projects can not be double counted. For example one year managing several projects only counts as one year.
Calculating the hours spent leading and directing projects
In the calculation of hours leading a directing projects work on parallel project can be counted and added up separately. If you worked on separate projects the time spent leading and directing each project can the counted separately.
Requirements for 35 hours of training
The 35 hours of project management training must be completed before you apply to the PMI to to take the PMP exam.

- Three years or 36 months of experience in a project management role, of which 4500 hours has to be spent leading or directing projects. In practice 4500 hours is equivalent to 562 days (or about 112 weeks).
- 35 hours of formal project management training. The Parallel Project Training PMP Certification Course meets the requirements for this 35.
If you do not hold a bachelor degree then the requirements for PMP certification are:
- Five years or 60 months of experience in a project management role, of which 7500 hours has to be spent leading or directing projects. In practice 4500 hours is equivalent to 937 days (or about 187 weeks).
- 35 hours of formal project management training. The Parallel Project Training PMP Certification Course meets the requirements for this 35.
If you manage multiple projects different criteria are used to calculate the overall experience and time spent managing and directing projects.
