What is The APM Project Management Qualification (APM PMQ)?

The APM Project Management Qualification (APM PMQ) was formerly known as the APMP and is designed for those who see project management as a key part of their role. It establishes a solid foundation in project management behaviours, skills, processes and tools. It is ideal for those, with a few years’ experience in project delivery, who are seeking to consolidate a structured approach to project management.

The content of the APM Project Management Qualification is the same as the old APMP Qualification and at the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Confidently apply the principles of project management to your project including:
    • Defining the different roles in a project
    • Describing the difference between a project, programme and portfolio
    • Understanding impact of project context on success
    • Establishing the project lifecycle and its benefits
    • Developing a project business case
    • Preparing a project management plan with the associated baselines
    • Describing the way in which project managers lead and develop teams
    • Describe how to control a project including applying earned value management
    • Explain how to procure external resources
    • Explain how quality can be managed during project delivery
  • Confidently sit the APM PMQ exam (formerly APMP) with a clear understanding of what is required to pass.
  • Explain the benefits of project management to you and your organisation.

What Pre-work Is Expected Before The Course?

This virtual programme requires minimal pre-work. In total during the 6-8 week programme you can expect to spend 40-60 hours working through the materials. Each week we will have a clear plan of what will be covered and the topics will be consolidated by weekly homework. If you are unsure if you are ready for the APMP we recommend you take this APM PMQ initial assessment. If you don't get 60% of the questions right we would recommend you take the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) instead of the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ).

What Is The Course Like?

A Structured Approach To Projects

Course Introduction - An overview of the course syllabus, assessment criteria and the exam arrangements.

Context and Environments - Projects are not delivered in isolation they need to fit within the overall business, legal and political environment. In this session we explore how projects transform ongoing operations and how projects support strategic change as part of a co-ordinated programme or portfolio of projects. In this session, we also examine, relevant legislation that is applicable to projects including health and safety, environmental, employment and contract law.

Organisations and Project Structures - Projects need to work with a wide range of different organisations and cultures. To be effective a project team needs clear roles and responsibilities. In this session we explore the different types of organisation and the key responsibilities of the project manager, sponsor, user and the project office.

Benefits Of Virtual Training

echarris image 1

Virtual training provides corporate organisations and individuals many benefits over traditional classroom training. More flexible than traditional teaching methods, virtual training can help delegates fit the courses into their busy work schedule. It is more cost effective because it involves less travel, accommodation and time out of the office. The bite-size week by week sessions suit a larger number of people’s preferred learning styles because they’re not forced to absorb content in large blocks as they would have to on a traditional five day project management course. Parallel delivers a number of global project management training programs using virtual training every year. If you think this is something that might benefit your organisation, please do get in touch and we can explore the possibilities.
