Description

Delivering projects in manufacturing presents a unique set of challenges, as there is often no dedicated project management function. Organisations are balancing special projects and change initiatives, alongside demanding business-as-usualoperations. Successful project delivery therefore requires effective planning, communication and coordination.

This practical course provides project management tools and techniques that can be applied immediately, helping delegates deliver and implement projects and change initiatives with greater consistency, confidence and success.

Topics Covered

The course covers the key areas needed to deliver projects more effectively in a manufacturing environment, including:

  • Project management basics, including the difference between projects, programmes and portfolios.

  • Defining clear objectives, outcomes and business benefits that support operational performance and continuous improvement.

  • Setting up the project properly, with clear roles, responsibilities, governance and accountability.

  • Engaging stakeholders, including production, operations, quality, engineering, suppliers and senior management.

  • Planning the work, including scope, milestones, resources, dependencies and operational constraints, whilst maintaining day-to-day production.

  • Managing risks, issues and changes as the project progresses, including operational, commercial and customer risks.

  • Communicating and reporting clearly, so that stakeholders understand progress and decisions can be made at the right time.

  • Coordinating work effectively across departments, functions and shift patterns to keep projects on track.

  • Closing the project, capturing lessons learned and reviewing whether the intended benefits and operational improvements have been achieved.
