About Brighton

The seaside resort of Brighton makes up one of the two main areas of the city of Brighton and Hove. It is located just 47 miles south of London, in East Sussex. The area is rich in history, which can be traced back as far as the Bronze Age with evidence of settlements unearthed in the region.

Brighton is an inclusive and forward thinking city with a large LGBQT+ population, quirky shopping areas, a fantastic arts and music scene and a diverse cultural outlook. One of its most popular tourist attractions is Brighton Beach, a 4 mile long stretch of beach with a pier and some fantastic views out onto the English Channel.

The nearest airport to Brighton is London Gatwick, which is just a 30 minute drive away. Both Gatwick and Heathrow are serviced by flights from all over the UK, Europe and the rest of the world, and there are regular coach connections from both airports to Brighton.

The city is also very easy to get to by train, with regular trains from London (a journey of just under an hour), and a direct link to the Eurostar service operating out of St Pancras International. Journeys from other major cities within the UK will require a change of train as there are only direct connections on the Southern, Gatwick Express and Thameslink lines.

By road, Brighton is just 45 minutes from the M25 London orbital motorway. It is also just a 90 minute – 2 hour drive away by motorway from the ports of Southampton, Portsmouth and Dover, making it easy to get to from mainland Europe and the port of Newhaven has regular ferries to France (4-5 hours)

Project management courses in Brighton are often scheduled to take place over several days. This means that you may need somewhere to stay in the local area to avoid long journeys each day. Here is a small selection of hotels in Brighton you may want to consider.

Leonardo Hotel Brighton – Formerly Jurys Inn (BN1 4DJ)

In the heart of Brighton city centre, the Leonardo Hotel Brighton is just a few minutes’ walk from the closest railway station. It is also a short walk from the beach in one direction and the city centre in the opposite direction. There is offsite parking at the hotel at an additional cost of £16 per night, making it a better choice for those travelling by public transport. The hotel has free Wi-Fi throughout and there are a number of onsite meeting rooms available for hire.

Malmaison Brighton (BN2 5WA)

Located 1 mile from Brighton Beach, and near to the marina, this hotel is located a little way from the city centre. It is a short drive from the nearest station but does offer free onsite parking to guests. This is a smaller hotel with just 71 rooms, and, as such, does not have any business facilities with the exception of one meeting room. It offers a good range of dining options in its onsite restaurant and plenty of fantastic views and fresh sea air thanks to its beachfront location.

The Old Ship Hotel (BN1 1NR)

Just 1 minute from the centre, there are few hotels in Brighton with such a central location. The hotel is a 13 minute walk from the nearest railway station and boasts a fantastic seafront location with stunning views. There is an onsite fitness centre which is open 24 hours, and the hotel has a range of different dining options for guests. There is onsite valet parking, but it is limited and there is an additional nightly cost. Built in 1559, the hotel is steeped in history and offers a unique place to stay in Brighton.

Restaurants

Despite the incredible number of stunning restaurants in Brighton, there are none which have been awarded a Michelin Star. There are, however, plenty of restaurants that have warranted a mention in the Michelin Guide over the course of the last year. The Flint House, Brighton (BN1 1GS) is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant offering a fantastic selection of European small plates in an atmosphere that is bustling and lively. The dishes are bold and offer plenty of flavour, and for those who like a drink there is a cocktail bar on the first floor of the restaurant, with the rooftop terrace also offering the perfect place to enjoy a drink. Burnt Orange (BN1 1AL) is another Bib Gourmand holder and whilst it has only been open for a couple of years, has quickly become popular with locals and visitors. The menu offers flame cooked, globally inspired dishes in the form of sharing plates. The atmosphere is relaxed and there are plenty of cocktails. Burnt Orange was named the Best Brighton Restaurants in the 2022 Awards for Brighton Restaurants. There are a number of up and coming restaurants in Brighton which have opened within the last 12-18 months, and have already gained a mention in the Michelin Guide. These offer a range of different cuisines and are well worth considering.

Entertainment

On a warmer evening, no stay in Brighton is really complete without a trip to Brighton Pier (BN2 1TW). With fairground rides, ice cream, amusement arcades and doughnuts a visit to the pier is like a trip down memory lane to childhood family holidays at the British seaside. If a traditional pub appeals, then head to The Lanes where you will find a number of centuries old establishments specialising in real and cask ales and with an atmosphere that is full of character. The Prince Albert (BN1 4ED) is a landmark designed not to be missed. As one of Brighton’s nightlife institutions the venue is well known for its incredible, bold mural. This is the place for live gigs of all genres, and they offer a wide range of ciders and craft ales.
