Adrian Taggart B.Eng (Hons), M.Sc., C.Eng., M.I.Mech.E., MAPM, PMP
Profile:
Adrian has an extensive record of achievement in the project management environment both as a practising project manager, and also as a widely respected consultant and trainer within the discipline. He offers the following skills and attributes:
- Direct experience of the management of a variety of high profile national and international infrastructure projects, in both client and supplier roles.
- Wide ranging academic (post-graduate) and professional qualifications in the discipline of project management.
- Broad experience as a consultant to a range of UK clients advising, supporting and training their project management communities.
- Contributed to the development of the profession by writing a number of published articles and arranging open seminars.
- Natural empathy and talent for teaching and mentoring roles.
Key Achievements:
Adrian started his career within the UK defence sector (MOD) and after graduating focused on engineering projects, progressing to the management of multi-million pound projects installing hydro power stations in many of the more remote locations around the world. The logistical, technical, commercial and cultural aspects of these endeavours provided a major project management challenge.
Adrian then successfully stepped into the academic sector where he developed and delivered the “People in Projects” module of the M.Sc. in Project Management at Leeds Met. University. His wealth of practical experience and natural communication skills made him a popular and valued member of the academic team.
Stepping back into the commercial sector, Adrian now offers consultancy and training in the field of project management to various corporate clients such as Transport for London, Scott Wilson and Thames Water.
About Bristol
Straddling the River Avon, in the southwest of the UK, Bristol is a city steeped in maritime history. What was once a city-centre port is now considered to be a cultural hub. The city’s former warehouses are now home to restaurants and cultural institutions as a result of major regeneration. Bristol is famous for its modern economy, which has been built on the aerospace industry, electronics and creative media. It is the home of the Clifton Suspension Bridge, the birthplace of Nitrous Oxide and was the first city in Britain to be named European Green Capital. It is a fantastic base for any project management training course.
Because project management training courses normally take place over several days it is a good idea to look for local accommodation. Fortunately, Bristol has plenty of great hotels to offer.
The Bristol Hotel, Prince St, Bristol BS1 4QF
An iconic building located on the quayside of the floating harbour, The Bristol is an ideally placed luxury hotel in the heart of the city. The hotel has paid public parking onsite as well as electric vehicle charging points. There is a business centre with plenty of internet access and also meeting rooms for those who would like to conduct their project management training courses in the same location. It benefits from all of the amenities that you would expect from a 4-star hotel.
Bristol Marriott City Centre, 2 Lower Castle St, Bristol BS1 3AD
Located right in the heart of the city, this hotel is conveniently placed for those who prefer to use public transport; there is no on-site parking, although paid public parking is available nearby. It has all of the amenities you would expect from a hotel in the Marriott group, including free WIFI in all areas of the hotel and onsite meeting rooms. Whilst there is a restaurant in the hotel, there are also plenty of restaurants within a short walk of the hotel, making it a great choice for anyone who would like to explore Bristol during their stay.
Avon Gorge by Hotel Du Vin, Sion Hill, Clifton, Bristol BS8 4LD
In the heart of Clifton Village, just outside the city centre, but still within walking distance, is the stunning Avon Gorge Hotel. This is a historic hotel with the décor to match, and it offers some truly unrivalled views over the surrounding area and, of course, the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Parking at the hotel is limited. However, the hotel does have some parking permits for the village, which can be made available to visitors on a first come, first served basis. Situated on the outskirts of Bristol, this hotel offers a very tranquil stay.
As most project management training courses last for several days, you will probably want to find something to do in the evenings, and Bristol has plenty to offer.
Restaurants
When it comes to dining in Bristol, there are some fantastic restaurants to choose from, with a wealth of different cuisines to choose from. If, however, you are looking for something a little special, then Bristol is home to two Michelin star restaurants, there are also a number of Michelin plate restaurants and some which have been awarded the Bib Gourmand.
Bulrush is the newest Bristol restaurant to receive a coveted Michelin star. The restaurant, which has been open since 2015, makes great use of fresh organic and foraged ingredients to present a menu that is very inventive and a real contrast in tastes and flavours. The restaurant can be found on Cotham Road, BS6 5TZ. The other Michelin star restaurant in Bristol is Paco Tapas which offers a completely different taste experience. As the name would suggest, this is a tapas restaurant serving a cleverly balanced menu featuring a wide range of tapas and a great selection of Spanish wines alongside. Find Paco Tapas on Lower Guinea St in Redcliffe, BS1 6SY.
Entertainment
When it comes to entertainment, Bristol’s nightlife is legendary. Whether you want to visit a club, see a live gig or visit a bar, there really is something for everyone with a wide range of magic, comedy nights, and even karaoke bars to be found in the city centre.
Bristol has a thriving theatre and performing arts scene with a good number of theatres and the Bristol Hippodrome offering a diverse range of entertainment. Bristol has also been awarded purple flag status, which is similar to the blue flag system for beaches but is an accreditation for a city’s nightlife and evening economy. The purple flag covers all 5 areas of the city: West End, Harbourside, Quayside, Old City, Bristol Shopping Quarter, Old Market Quarter
