APM PMQA well run and thought through course. The online portal, with videos and learning material was a great benefit along side the teams sessions. Our trainer, Carmen, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She put time aside to help answer questions, review work of our allotted sessions which was really appreciated.A slight frustration for me was that the paper work didn't always match the slides we were looking at, and the study guide arrived after our first days learning. But overall a very well run course. Many thanks,Richard

I can highly recommend Parallel Project training for the preparation of the APM certification. The trainer are highly skilled and take huge effort in working with each individual to prepare for the exam (Thank you Carmen for you huge support and going the extra mile!). Their online platform includes very helpful videos and their prep questions trains you well for the assessment criteria.Absolute worth it!

I complete the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification through online webinars and exam. The learning materials were high quality and delivery was very professional. The tutor was extremely well prepared and use analogies, case studies and real world examples to help make the course engaging. If you want to get an APM Fundamentals Certificate and your company uses the APM system for project management, then this course is a good introduction. However, the content is largely about the APM words for different aspects of project management and you are tested, not on your PM skill, but your ability to remember a specific set of terminology. This led to a lot of "teaching to exam" rather than developing any skills. This course lacks depth and does not develop Project Management skills.

I completed the APM qualification 5 days over 5 weeks and I found this to be better way due to work commitments etc. Our trainer Carmen was very knowledgeable and I found the first 4 days of the course very beneficial. Unfortunately the final day which was used for revision didn't suit my learning style and I came away feeling more unprepared. Instead of going over all the content we have already learnt and answering any questions we just kept going over 'possible' questions and answers which really didn't work for me. I also found the exam questions to be very different to the ones we have spent time on practicing, so again seemed like a waste.
Attended the APM PFQ training & certification - One of the best trainings I have been in, the instructor (Jan Underdown) was very knowledgeable on the subjects due to her immense real-life experience in project management, very articulate and took time to ensure everyone understood the concepts.
Parallel Project Training provide a well-structured course, enabling an in depth understanding of project management methodologies, structures and challenges to overcome. The tutor (Jan Underdown) balanced the course well and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The online service is exceptional!

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) course was very chaotic to say the least. The training provider spent way too much time making kitchen analogy to illustrate structural breakdown and then ended up rushing through the rest of the course and I feel like she missed important bits that we were asked about in the exam.

I heartily recommend Parallel's APM PMQ 8 week virtual course. Its not an easy exam, however the tutors at Parallel ensure you have the knowledge and tips to pass. The tips and advice on how to pass the exam were invaluable and compliment the online lessons, text books, podcasts and homework.

About Manchester

About Manchester

Located in the North-West of England, Manchester is a thriving commercial hub and one of the biggest cities in the country. As a location to attend a project management training course, Manchester has everything that you could possibly need.

Transport

Thanks to its substantial transport network, Manchester is easy to get to. It has its own airport which offers excellent transport links to the city centre and a number of venues in the nearby vicinity. There are a number of different railway stations located in the centre of the city, such as Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly. It is also served by some great motorway links, including the M60 ring road, M56, M62, M602, M66, M67 and M6; all of which make it very easy to access no matter where you are travelling from.

tram in Princess Street in Manchester

Once in Manchester itself, travel is also easy thanks to the great bus, train, and tram network. The Manchester Metrolink is a tram/light rail system with almost 100 stops and is the longest such system in the UK.

Where to Stay

Whether you are looking for a city centre hotel or something a short distance away from the location of your training course, Manchester is home to plenty of very good hotels.

Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel

At just 0.3m from the centre of Manchester this 4 star hotel is ideally located for great transport links, and within easy travelling distance of everything that a big city like Manchester has to offer; from restaurants to theatres, arenas to shops. It has all of the modern amenities you would want when attending a training course with its own onsite business centre allowing you to keep in contact with your office.

Hotel Indigo – Victoria Station

Located right in the centre of Manchester, this hotel is perfect if you want somewhere you will also be able to do a little sightseeing from. It is conveniently placed for Manchester Airport and just a 2 minute walk away from Manchester Victoria railway station. With its 24 hour business centre it makes a great base for attending a city centre training course.

Hotel Football

For those arriving in Manchester by car then a hotel that is a little way from the centre of the city is more suitable as it will have more parking availability. Hotel Football is a very modern hotel located very close to Old Trafford and a short journey from the city centre. The hotel has its own meeting rooms and is also highly accessible for any guests requiring wheelchair access.

Meeting rooms

Many of the big hotels in Manchester have meeting rooms that can be hired for training purposes; all of the hotels mentioned above offer a range of different meeting rooms available for different lengths of time. For convenience you may prefer to stay in the hotel where your course is being held.

Regus

Training course may also be held in sites like Regus, such as the one at St James Tower, which offer city centre locations as well as those that are within easy travelling distance of the centre. They even have meeting space really near Manchester Airport. All of their spaces are well equipped and thoroughly modern making them a really great place to attend any form of training course.

The Science and Industry Museum

The Manchester Science and Industry Museum has a newly refurbished meeting room with all of the facilities that you should require for a training course. If you are lucky enough to attend a training course here you will find a setting a little more unusual than normal, and it is centrally located in the heart of Manchester. There are plenty of eateries within walking distance but the venue also provides onsite catering.

thestudio

Located in the Northern Quarter of the city thestudio offers a thoroughly modern selection of meeting rooms with state-of-the-art technology making them a great option if you are attending a training course here. You can find it at 51 Lever St, Manchester M1 1FN.

Things To Do

While attending a face-to-face classroom course in Manchester, the chances are you’ll have at least a little down time. Why not check out some of what the city has to offer?

Restaurants

One thing that Manchester is not short of is restaurants. In fact, it is a veritable melting pot of just about every cuisine that you could think of. Whether you are looking for an up-market burger restaurant, Japanese food, Indian food, Italian or some of the best curries you will find in the North-west (just a few miles out of the centre is the world famous “Curry Mile” in Rusholme where you will find around 70 different restaurants).

If you want to eat somewhere a little more well-known then head to Rosso, where plenty of the celebrities eat, or Adam Reid at the French – the first Manchester restaurant to be awarded a Michelin star, which it held from 1974-1977. For a restaurant with a current Michelin start (the only one in Manchester) try the avant-garde menu at Mana, which is located at42 Blossom St, Ancoats, M4 6BF.

Entertainment

There are plenty of bars and clubs in the city centre or why not consider visiting one of the many theatres in Manchester centre or checking out what is on at the AO Arena (you may need to book these in advance).

If you are looking for things to do during the daytime after completing your project management course, the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry is full of interesting exhibits. The Manchester Museum, and its famous dinosaur skeleton, is currently closed for a substantial restoration project, so if you want to visit check on the status of these works before heading in that direction.

A short way from the city centre is the Salford Quays complex which is the new home of the BBC in the North-west and there are often outdoor art installations to see in the vicinity.
