About Tredegar

Tredegar is a town in South Wales, located on the banks of the Sirhowy River. It is in the borough of Blaenau Gwent and is situated within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.  The early centre of the Welsh Industrial Revolution, Tredegar is famous for its Brass Band, who are ranked number 2 in the world rankings. It is also the birthplace of Aneurin (Nye) Bevan the founder of the NHS. As a location, Tredegar is easier to get to than you might think and makes a great place for training courses in South Wales.

Transport

Tredegar is accessible from all directions via a good network of motorways and A Roads. The M4 offers a good direct link between London and Newport, with the remainder of the journey completed on A roads. The M5 links the region to Exeter in the south and Birmingham in the North. The closest Airport can be found in Cardiff, which is the busiest airport in Wales and offers flights to over 50 destinations including direct flights from both Edinburgh and Dublin. Bristol Airport, which is 36 miles away, offers plenty of flight options as well. Whilst Tredegar does not have its own station, the local transport network for both buses and trains is very good and an easy way to complete your journey from Cardiff to Tredegar if flying. Many of the local bus routes do however take in many destinations, so the journey is not as direct as may be preferred, in which case car hire or a taxi may be a preferred alternative.

Most project management courses last at least a couple of days, so it is a good idea to find some local accommodation. Tredegar and the surrounding area have a number to choose from.

The Cambrian, 2 Castle St, Tredegar NP22 3DE

The Cambrian is almost as old as the town of Tredegar itself, having been built in 1809. This is a 4 star accommodation choice but a little different to many of the hotels you will find in bigger cities. There is free onsite parking, and the rooms are a very good size with all of the facilities you could want for your stay, including free Wi-Fi. The Cambrian is an old fashioned style Inn offering a superb range of food to suit all dietary needs, including both vegan and vegetarian hot breakfast options. They even have a small meeting room onsite which would be suitable for a smaller sized project management training course.

Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel & Spa, Cwm Taf, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 2HY

Due to its size, there are limited accommodation options available in Tredegar itself. The Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel & Spa is a 4 star hotel in Cwm Taf, is however just 8.9 miles from Tredegar. This is a wonderful hotel, offering some spectacular views of the local countryside and a truly peaceful nights rest. The hotel has free Wi-Fi and plenty of onsite parking as well as a range of leisure facilities for those who prefer their hotels with an opportunity to really relax after a busy day on a training course.

Meeting rooms

Whilst the Cambrian does have a small meeting room, it is often a good idea to hold your project management training course at an alternative location to keep the two separate.

Blaenau Gwent General Offices, Steel Works Rd, Ebbw Vale NP23 8UW

Due to the size of Tredegar, there are relatively few meeting rooms available to hire other than those that you might find in the larger local hotels. However Blaenau Gwent General offices operate a conference centre on The Works Site, which is situated in Ebbw Vale, just a short distance away. This is a thoroughly charming old building that has been fully modernised to offer all of the meeting room facilities that you would need for a project management training course, including Wi-Fi and projection capabilities.

Tredegar Park Golf Club, Parc-Y-Brain Rd, Rogerstone, Newport NP10 9TG

Located in nearby Newport the Tredegar Park Golf Club is another alternative venue with well-equipped meeting rooms that are suitable for training courses.

Meetingo and Regus

If you prefer to hire a meeting room through a specialist business space hire company like Meetingo or Regus, then there are no locations available in either Tredegar or Newport. The closest venues to Tredegar can be found in Merthyr Tydfil (8 miles) Cardiff (25 miles) or in Port Talbot (37 miles). These locations may work well if you have people joining you on a daily basis for training who are travelling from these directions.

If your training course lasts for a few days, then you will want to find some things to do in the local area.

Restaurants

When it comes to places to eat in Tredegar then you will be absolutely spoilt for choice if you are looking for a good pub with freshly cooked food that uses plenty of local ingredients. There are a good number of these in Tredegar all with their own special take on a traditional pub menu with plenty of twists on the classics. There are also a number of highly recommended If you are looking for something a little bit fancier that there are a number of restaurants a short drive from Tredegar that are mentioned in the Michelin Restaurant Guide. The closest is The Gaff in Abergavenny. This is a restaurant that specialises in small dishes that showcase some of the best local produce available. The Walnut Tree in Llanddewi Skirrid, 17 miles from Tredegar is a 1 star Michelin star restaurant. Shaun Hill has been the chef in charge of The Walnut Tree for 20 years and his dishes are often described as simplicity on a plate, the type of simplicity that takes a great amount of technical skill and top quality ingredients to get just right. Whilst most of the menu is described as Modern British, there are also hints of cuisine from other cultures in many of the dishes; tastes that Shaun Hill has picked up on his travels over the years.

Entertainment

Tredegar is a smaller town in quite a rural location, here the pace of life is a little slower. There are things to do in the evening but not on the scale that you might find in some of the bigger nearby towns like Newport or even the City of Cardiff. What Tredegar does have is a number of traditional inns serving some great beers and ales, including some more local brews. They are also a great source of entertainment in the form of live music provided by local bands and can be a great choice for those who are looking to relax in the evening after a day learning on a training course. The Little Theatre on Coronation Street is the only theatre in the town, and sometimes doubles as a cinema however they are not open all year round.
