APM PMQA well run and thought through course. The online portal, with videos and learning material was a great benefit along side the teams sessions. Our trainer, Carmen, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She put time aside to help answer questions, review work of our allotted sessions which was really appreciated.A slight frustration for me was that the paper work didn't always match the slides we were looking at, and the study guide arrived after our first days learning. But overall a very well run course. Many thanks,Richard

The trainer are highly skilled and take huge effort in working with each individual to prepare for the exam (Thank you Carmen for you huge support and going the extra mile!). Their online platform includes very helpful videos and their prep questions trains you well for the assessment criteria.Absolute worth it!

I complete the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification through online webinars and exam. The learning materials were high quality and delivery was very professional. The tutor was extremely well prepared and use analogies, case studies and real world examples to help make the course engaging. If you want to get an APM Fundamentals Certificate and your company uses the APM system for project management, then this course is a good introduction. However, the content is largely about the APM words for different aspects of project management and you are tested, not on your PM skill, but your ability to remember a specific set of terminology. This led to a lot of "teaching to exam" rather than developing any skills. This course lacks depth and does not develop Project Management skills.

I completed the APM qualification 5 days over 5 weeks and I found this to be better way due to work commitments etc. Our trainer Carmen was very knowledgeable and I found the first 4 days of the course very beneficial. Unfortunately the final day which was used for revision didn't suit my learning style and I came away feeling more unprepared. Instead of going over all the content we have already learnt and answering any questions we just kept going over 'possible' questions and answers which really didn't work for me. I also found the exam questions to be very different to the ones we have spent time on practicing, so again seemed like a waste.
Attended the APM PFQ training & certification - One of the best trainings I have been in, the instructor (Jan Underdown) was very knowledgeable on the subjects due to her immense real-life experience in project management, very articulate and took time to ensure everyone understood the concepts.
Parallel Project Training provide a well-structured course, enabling an in depth understanding of project management methodologies, structures and challenges to overcome. The tutor (Jan Underdown) balanced the course well and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The online service is exceptional!

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) course was very chaotic to say the least. The training provider spent way too much time making kitchen analogy to illustrate structural breakdown and then ended up rushing through the rest of the course and I feel like she missed important bits that we were asked about in the exam.

I heartily recommend Parallel's APM PMQ 8 week virtual course. Its not an easy exam, however the tutors at Parallel ensure you have the knowledge and tips to pass. The tips and advice on how to pass the exam were invaluable and compliment the online lessons, text books, podcasts and homework.

About Birmingham

About Birmingham

Birmingham, in the West Midlands, is a very centrally located city in the UK that benefits from a great transport network. Project management training in Birmingham is a perfect choice and the city is, of course, well known for being the home of Cadbury World, The Bullring Shopping centre and as a manufacturing powerhouse.

Transport

Centrally located in the middle of the UK, you would imagine that Birmingham would be easy to get to and you would be right. The city is home to Birmingham Airport (formerly Birmingham International Airport), this is located just a few miles from the city centre and linked by the free-to-use monorail system to Birmingham International Station. The station itself offers links to stations all over the country with regular trains to Glasgow, Manchester and London to name just a few of the larger destinations.

Birmingham is at the heart of the UK motorway network and linked by the M5, M6, M40 and M42. The M1 is just 30 minutes away and the M6 Toll Road also offers another popular travel solution. Birmingham is also home to Spaghetti Junction. Sometimes referred to as Gravelly Hill Interchange, this is one “attraction” many visitors to the area prefer to avoid.

The city centre itself has a very good bus, tram and train network making it easy to get around. Walking and cycling around the city centre are also popular.

Where to Stay

Accommodation is an important consideration when attending a project management training course and a well located hotel will allow you to get the rest you need in order to give your full attention to the training sessions.

Edgbaston Park Hotel (53 Edgbaston Park Rd, Birmingham B15 2RS)

This hotel is one of two that are a part of the University of Birmingham and is located 2 miles outside the city centre. It has only been open for a relatively short time but is one of the most popular 4 star hotels you will find in the Birmingham area. It is a modern hotel with a contemporary feel, free Wi-Fi and cutting edge conference and meeting room facilities. If you are travelling by car this hotel is ideal as it has onsite parking for guests and is outside the clear air zone.

Jury’s Inn Birmingham (245 Broad St, Birmingham B1 2HQ)

Centrally located Jury’s Inn is just a short walk from Birmingham New Street station, it also benefits from 200 onsite parking spaces. This is a substantially sized hotel that is part of a well known hotel group. All of the modern rooms are stylishly decorated. The hotel has a number of conference and meeting rooms making it a good choice for hosting a training course.

Hyatt Regency Birmingham (2 Bridge St, Birmingham B1 2JZ)

Centrally located near Birmingham New Street station the hotel is located in the clean air zone, which is something worth considering if you plan to drive here. The local bus and train service is excellent so getting around is easy. The hotel offers incredible views over the city and is incredibly stylish and modern with all of the facilities you should need when away from home. There is an onsite business centre for those who want to catch up with a little work and the meeting room facilities are ideal for hosting training courses with large or smaller groups.

Meeting rooms

All of the hotels we have featured in our guide offer excellent meeting room facilities. However, it is often nice to have a change of scenery when you are away on training in Birmingham and there are plenty of alternative meeting rooms.

NRC Birmingham

The National Resource Centre is a hub for meetings, and events and offers a staggering 11,000 sq. ft of facilities over 2 floors. This is a brand new facility based in the heart of Birmingham and as such offers incredible facilities that are suitable for a range of meeting types and is particularly suited for in person training courses. Part of the Aston Cross Trade Park the NRC is located at 4th Floor Aqueous II Aston Cross Business Village, Chester St, Birmingham B6 5RQ.

Regus

Regus specialise in hiring meeting and business spaces out all over the country. They have a good selection of different venues available in the centre of Birmingham. All of their facilities are well equipped, serviced and have all of the modern equipment you might need to run a highly productive project management training course.

Things To Do

Whilst participating in face-to-face classroom training in Birmingham you will probably find yourself with some free time in the evenings. Here are just some of the things that the city has to offer.

Restaurants

Birmingham is known as the birthplace of the Balti – a fusion dish that rose to fame during the 1980s and 1990s, and just like Manchester, Birmingham has its own cluster of Indian restaurants. Known as the Balti Triangle, this area is located to the south of the city centre and includes Stoney Lane, Ladypool Road and Stratford Road. This is certainly an area worth exploring if you are looking for excellent curry.

If you are looking for somewhere where the A-listers hang out then head over to The Mailbox and Brindleyplace where you will find the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar and Grill. The youngest chef to ever receive three Michelin stars, this celebrity chef chose to hand his stars back to Michelin in 1999. If you prefer to stay in the city centre, then try the incredibly popular Fumo; their stunning Italian food has been attracting celebrities since they first opened.

Adams on Waterloo Street has often been voted as the best restaurant in Birmingham. This Michelin star restaurant offers contemporary fine dining with a somewhat eclectic twist.

Entertainment

If live music is your thing, then make sure that the O2 Institute is on your list. Considered to be one of the top live music venues in the UK. The original building opened in 1908 and for the last 30 years the O2 Institute has been host to some very big names including Pink Floyd and the Arctic Monkeys.

Birmingham is also home to the famous Everyman Theatre, the Birmingham Hippodrome and the Birmingham Symphony Hall, which offer a diverse range of entertainments.
