APM PMQA well run and thought through course. The online portal, with videos and learning material was a great benefit along side the teams sessions. Our trainer, Carmen, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She put time aside to help answer questions, review work of our allotted sessions which was really appreciated.A slight frustration for me was that the paper work didn't always match the slides we were looking at, and the study guide arrived after our first days learning. But overall a very well run course. Many thanks,Richard

I can highly recommend Parallel Project training for the preparation of the APM certification. The trainer are highly skilled and take huge effort in working with each individual to prepare for the exam (Thank you Carmen for you huge support and going the extra mile!). Their online platform includes very helpful videos and their prep questions trains you well for the assessment criteria.Absolute worth it!

I complete the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification through online webinars and exam. The learning materials were high quality and delivery was very professional. The tutor was extremely well prepared and use analogies, case studies and real world examples to help make the course engaging. If you want to get an APM Fundamentals Certificate and your company uses the APM system for project management, then this course is a good introduction. However, the content is largely about the APM words for different aspects of project management and you are tested, not on your PM skill, but your ability to remember a specific set of terminology. This led to a lot of "teaching to exam" rather than developing any skills. This course lacks depth and does not develop Project Management skills.

I completed the APM qualification 5 days over 5 weeks and I found this to be better way due to work commitments etc. Our trainer Carmen was very knowledgeable and I found the first 4 days of the course very beneficial. Unfortunately the final day which was used for revision didn't suit my learning style and I came away feeling more unprepared. Instead of going over all the content we have already learnt and answering any questions we just kept going over 'possible' questions and answers which really didn't work for me. I also found the exam questions to be very different to the ones we have spent time on practicing, so again seemed like a waste.
Attended the APM PFQ training & certification - One of the best trainings I have been in, the instructor (Jan Underdown) was very knowledgeable on the subjects due to her immense real-life experience in project management, very articulate and took time to ensure everyone understood the concepts.
Parallel Project Training provide a well-structured course, enabling an in depth understanding of project management methodologies, structures and challenges to overcome. The tutor (Jan Underdown) balanced the course well and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The online service is exceptional!

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) course was very chaotic to say the least. The training provider spent way too much time making kitchen analogy to illustrate structural breakdown and then ended up rushing through the rest of the course and I feel like she missed important bits that we were asked about in the exam.

I heartily recommend Parallel's APM PMQ 8 week virtual course. Its not an easy exam, however the tutors at Parallel ensure you have the knowledge and tips to pass. The tips and advice on how to pass the exam were invaluable and compliment the online lessons, text books, podcasts and homework.

About Leeds

About Leeds

The third largest city in England, Leeds is located in the North of the country, in the heart of Yorkshire. If you are looking for a location to attend a project management training course, then Leeds is not only well appointed but has all the facilities and transport links you could need.

Transport

Leeds is serviced by a sturdy transport network, making it a very accessible city. Leeds Bradford Airport is just a short journey from the city centre and welcomes visitors from 70 different destinations. The port of Hull is just over an hour away by car and Leeds benefits from direct train links from across the country. Within the local area TransPennine provide local train travel options. Leeds is served by some very good motorway links, including the M1 which connects it to London, M62, and the M1-A1 link road; a strategic link between the M62 and M1. Once in Leeds, travelling around the city is very easy due to its robust bus network linking the city centre with the surrounding area. First Leeds operate in the city centre and Arriva operate buses to the surrounding area.

Where to Stay

With project management courses lasting several days, finding suitable accommodation is a must. Fortunately, there are plenty of options here.

The Queens Hotel (New Station Street, City Square, Leeds LS1 1PJ)

Voted one of the best value 4 star hotels in Leeds The Queens Hotel is located right in the heart of the city. It is adjacent to Leeds train station and there is a direct entrance from the station concourse – perfect when the weather isn’t! Both the bus and coach station are just a short walk away. The hotel underwent a significant refurbishment programme in 2021 and as such its facilities are everything you would want when attending a training course. The hotel has a restaurant, Bar and 15 event spaces with great Wi-Fi connections which also make it an ideal place to attend a project management training course as well.

Novotel Leeds Centre Hotel (4 Whitehall Quay, Leeds LS1 4HR)

Another city centre hotel, the Novotel is a thoroughly modern hotel offering stylish simple elegance. The contemporary rooms all offer wireless internet and business desks which is handy if you need to stay connected with your office during your business course. This is a wheelchair accessible hotel that makes a great base for attending any project management training course in the city centre.

Hotel Quebecs (9 Quebec Street, Leeds LS1 2HA)

For a stylish city centre hotel that offers something a little different Quebecs is the perfect choice. The hotel offers limited onsite parking, which is payable, and also has special rates with nearby carparks for those guests who prefer to use their own transport, however it is just 350 yards from the station so getting there by train is incredibly simple. This is a more expensive 4 star hotel offering all of the facilities you would expect in a magnificent period building. It makes a great base for attending project management training courses nearby.

Meeting rooms

Two of the hotels we have already mentioned in Leeds have large meeting room facilities that can be used for training courses, only the Quebecs does not. Whilst some people like to stay and do their training in the same hotel it is understandable that you may want to separate the two. Fortunately, there are plenty of other alternatives available.

Wizu Workspace

With 4 Leeds based locations including The Leeming Building at Ludgate Hill, Leeds, LS2 7HZ, Wizu are a smaller company specialising in workspace and meeting rooms in Leeds and the surrounding area. Their meeting rooms range in size from 10 to 70 person capacity. They all offer super-fast connectivity, all of the facilities that you might need and also optional catering packages making them ideal for training courses.

Regus

Regus are another company who offer plenty of options for meeting room hire in city centre locations including at  2 Wellington Place, Leeds LS1 4AP. With 6 different locations listed for Leeds they offer both city centre and suburb locations for training courses. All of their venues are well equipped and modern ensuring that you have all of the facilities needed.

Clockwise

Clockwise offer a one location based meeting and workspace solution in the heart of Leeds, you can find them in Yorkshire House, Greek Street, LS1 5SH. An older building that retains many of its original features sympathetically restored they offer a thoroughly modern set up with Wi-Fi connectivity and large video conferencing screens.

Things To Do

If your project management training course lasts for several days, then Leeds offers plenty of opportunities for that all important down time. Here is just a sample of some of the things this wonderful city has to offer:

Restaurants

Leeds city centre offers plenty of dining experiences with a wide range of different cuisines available. The Ivy, which is set to open its second restaurant in the city centre in summer 2022, is a very popular choice and one often frequented by celebrities. From classic cuisine to Indian food, Sushi to Italian Leeds is a great place to find whatever type of cuisine you are looking for.

Leeds even has its own Michelin star restaurant, The Man Behind the Curtain is a 1 Michelin star restaurant which offers creative and somewhat unconventional dishes. The restaurant is located at 68-78 Vicar Lane Lower Ground Floor Flannels, Leeds LS1 7JH. There are a further six Michelin star restaurants in the Leeds area and a number of Michelin Plate restaurants as well – these are restaurants that Michelin inspectors have deemed worthy of a special mention for the quality of their food and are worthy of a detour.

Entertainment

Leeds is well known for what it describes as its “pulsating” nightlife, there are plenty of clubs and bars where you will not only find craft beers but also live bands to make your evening enjoyable. If you do fancy visiting a club then The Wire Club on Call Lane has a reputation for being one of the city’s most legendary nightclubs.

There are several theatres located in the heart of Leeds offering everything from cutting edge drama to the more cult viewing. The Leeds Playhouse is located just a short walk from the Minster whilst The Grand Theatre is just around the corner from the Cathedral.

If you fancy something completely different then why not visit The Tetley? This contemporary Art Gallery, located in an old brewery, also offers one of the best pints of Tetley’s you will find in Leeds.
