APM PMQA well run and thought through course. The online portal, with videos and learning material was a great benefit along side the teams sessions. Our trainer, Carmen, was very knowledgeable and helpful. She put time aside to help answer questions, review work of our allotted sessions which was really appreciated.A slight frustration for me was that the paper work didn't always match the slides we were looking at, and the study guide arrived after our first days learning. But overall a very well run course. Many thanks,Richard

I can highly recommend Parallel Project training for the preparation of the APM certification. The trainer are highly skilled and take huge effort in working with each individual to prepare for the exam (Thank you Carmen for you huge support and going the extra mile!). Their online platform includes very helpful videos and their prep questions trains you well for the assessment criteria.Absolute worth it!

I complete the APM Project Fundamentals Qualification through online webinars and exam. The learning materials were high quality and delivery was very professional. The tutor was extremely well prepared and use analogies, case studies and real world examples to help make the course engaging. If you want to get an APM Fundamentals Certificate and your company uses the APM system for project management, then this course is a good introduction. However, the content is largely about the APM words for different aspects of project management and you are tested, not on your PM skill, but your ability to remember a specific set of terminology. This led to a lot of "teaching to exam" rather than developing any skills. This course lacks depth and does not develop Project Management skills.

I completed the APM qualification 5 days over 5 weeks and I found this to be better way due to work commitments etc. Our trainer Carmen was very knowledgeable and I found the first 4 days of the course very beneficial. Unfortunately the final day which was used for revision didn't suit my learning style and I came away feeling more unprepared. Instead of going over all the content we have already learnt and answering any questions we just kept going over 'possible' questions and answers which really didn't work for me. I also found the exam questions to be very different to the ones we have spent time on practicing, so again seemed like a waste.
Attended the APM PFQ training & certification - One of the best trainings I have been in, the instructor (Jan Underdown) was very knowledgeable on the subjects due to her immense real-life experience in project management, very articulate and took time to ensure everyone understood the concepts.
Parallel Project Training provide a well-structured course, enabling an in depth understanding of project management methodologies, structures and challenges to overcome. The tutor (Jan Underdown) balanced the course well and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The online service is exceptional!

The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) course was very chaotic to say the least. The training provider spent way too much time making kitchen analogy to illustrate structural breakdown and then ended up rushing through the rest of the course and I feel like she missed important bits that we were asked about in the exam.

I heartily recommend Parallel's APM PMQ 8 week virtual course. Its not an easy exam, however the tutors at Parallel ensure you have the knowledge and tips to pass. The tips and advice on how to pass the exam were invaluable and compliment the online lessons, text books, podcasts and homework.

About Milton Keynes

About Milton Keynes

Milton Keynes is a relatively new town that was created in the 1960s by the government in response to the need for more new houses. It is situated in the Southeast of England and is now amongst the most economically productive areas in the UK. The town which recently celebrated 50 years is famous as the home of the Open University which was established in 1969. Because Milton Keynes is a created town rather than one that has grown over the decades it has a very good transport infrastructure making it incredibly easy to access and a great base for project management courses.

Transport

Planned with accessibility in mind Milton Keynes is just a 50-minute ride away from Luton Airport which is easy to get to from destinations within the UK, Europe and even a few that are a little further afield. Transport and great links were top of the list when Milton Keynes was built and as a result, getting here on public transport really couldn’t be simpler. The station has direct train links to both London and Birmingham as well as a number of other major cities in the UK. The M1 runs right past the city offering links to London in the South and Leeds and Sheffield in the North. Whilst in Milton Keynes visitors will find it very easy to use public transport thanks to the comprehensive service that is on offer.

Where to Stay

Most project management courses can last for several days, so it is a good idea to find some local accommodation. Milton Keynes

Mercure Hotel, The Approach, Two Mile Ash, Milton Keynes MK8 8LY

A part of the Mercure hotel chain the Mercure Milton Keynes is a recently refurbished hotel with a contemporary feel. The hotel is incredibly well situated just off the M1 making it a great choice for those who are visiting by car. There is free onsite parking and there are also a very good number of electric car charging points. The rooms feature all of the amenities that you would expect from a four-star hotel and some clever little touches as well like black-out blinds in all of the rooms. The onsite business centre makes it possible to stay connected with the office whilst attending your training course.

Double Tree by Hilton, Stadium Way W, Bletchley, Milton Keynes MK1 1ST

Built as part of the Milton Keynes Stadium complex the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel is a large modern hotel with plenty of facilities and rooms with something to suit every guest. The hotel boasts a staggering 17 event and conference spaces so if you don’t want to move too far to conduct your project management training course this should be ideal. As you will find with most of the hotels in Milton Keynes there is plenty of free onsite parking and it is also very conveniently situated for access to everything that Milton Keynes has to offer.

Jurys Inn, Midsummer Blvd, Milton Keynes MK9 2HP

Just a short walk from the train station the Jurys Inn Milton Keynes is a modern hotel with large rooms, featuring working stations as well as all the amenities you might expect. The hotel does not have its own parking however there is a public car park adjacent which is suitable for use by guests of the hotel. The hotel does offer business facilities however there is an additional charge for their use.

Meeting rooms

All of the hotels we have mentioned have good-sized meeting room facilities that can be hired for training courses. If you prefer to separate your accommodation and training between two locations, then you may want to make use of one of the companies that specialise in meeting room hire to find something suitable.

Venuescanner

Venuescanner has a range of different meeting room options available for Milton Keynes, the Kents Hill Park Training and Conference Centre in MK7 has a number of different sizes of rooms available from those that are suitable to accommodate smaller project management training courses to larger rooms with sufficient space for more people. All of the rooms are available to hire fully equipped with the latest in appropriate technology to suit your training requirements.

Regus

Another company specialising in meeting rooms, Regus have 3 facilities in the area, the first two are in the centre of Milton Keynes itself whilst the third is located in Milton Keynes Village which is just on the outskirts. Midsummer Court in the centre of Milton Keynes is a contemporary building with floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a light and bright working environment that is perfect for your project management training course.

Things To Do

When your project management training course lasts for several days, you may want to check out some of the things that Milton Keynes has to offer.

Restaurants

Caribbean, Japanese, Italian, Turkish, Milton Keynes has all of these different cuisines and more so you are certain to be able to find a restaurant that will catch your eye

Whilst the area around Milton Keynes may not have any Michelin star restaurants, yet, it does have 3 that the Michelin inspectors have deemed worthy of a mention in the most recent guide The Pilgrim (25 High St, North Marston, MK18 3PD) is an old-fashioned pub, their menu relies heavily on traditional home cooking, not only do they use local sustainable suppliers but also vegetables that they grow in their own garden. Eileen’s by Steve Barringer (86A Dunstable St, Ampthill, MK45 2JP) is a tiny restaurant with just 8 tables and a menu that changes every couple of months The food often focuses on just one or two seasonal ingredients, preparing them in a number of different ways. The final restaurant is Paris House (Woburn Park, MK17 9QP), where the menu has subtle Asian influences and uses taste and texture combinations that enhance each dish.

Entertainment

With a range of bars, pubs and clubs on every street in the centre of Milton Keynes you may want to try something a little different during your evenings in the town. Head over to Snozone at Xscape on Marlborough Gate. This is a small indoor ski centre with an artificial ski slope that is perfect for a little bit of out-of-season practice. Snozone is open until quite late most evenings so makes an unusual evening activity.

The Stables Theatre is another alternative you may want to consider for your evenings in Milton Keynes. This 400-seat auditorium is host to around 350 concerts per year with some incredibly well-known acts taking place as well as some up-and-coming bands.
