– Parallel Project Training introduces a project management training course designed to meet the specific needs for improved value for money in clinical research project –

23rd June, 2010: Parallel Project Training, an innovative new specialist training provider in APM project management training
and APMP certification, has launched a new project management training course tailored specifically to the needs of clinical research projects to deliver improved value for money. This follows Parallel Project Training’s continued success in other industry sectors and excellent customer feedback about its flexibility, wide range of learning materials and practical approach to project management training.

The Clinical Research and Development training package provides a structured and collaborative approach to project management in the clinical trials sector. It has been designed to tackle unique challenges, such as project scoping and risk specifically faced by project managers in this sector. It aims to enable clinical trials project managers to understand and apply the principals of project management to clinical research projects and explain the benefits of this to the rest of the organisation.

The course is based on the APM Body of Knowledge, as all Parallel Project Training courses are and has been designed as a first step towards the APMP certification. It teaches project managers in the clinical trials sector how to develop a clear definition of project success factors, which is very often outside the direct influence of the project manager. It also coaches project managers to plan in the face of significant uncertainty, clearly define the project scope, effectively manage project risk and use earned value methods to provide meaningful progress reports.

The course is broken down into seven modules, which are consistently approached across all the material. These include:

  • Project Management in Context
  • Planning and Strategy
  • Executing the Strategy
  • Project Management Techniques
  • Business and Commercial
  • Organisation and Governance
  • People and the profession

The training is delivered by Roger Joby B.Sc. MAPM, a well respected and experienced project management expert and associate partner of Parallel Project Training. Roger has been involved in the pharmaceutical industry for over 30 years working for both CROs and pharmaceutical companies and now as an independent consultant. Roger’s experience includes project management, proposal generation, sub-contractor contacts and project finance.

Paul Naybour, Business Development Director of Parallel Project Training said “This is a very unique and specific course designed to help project managers in the clinical trials sector to explain the benefits of project management to their organisations and apply the principles and best practices endorsed by Parallel Project Training to their clinical research projects. Much of the success of clinical projects is outside the direct influence of the project manager and while these factors cannot be controlled, they can be influenced and managed well with a structured and collaborative approach. We are proud to be able to support this sector and due to our 100% customer pass rate so far we are sure the pharmaceutical sector will be equally successful too.” David Davies, Product Development Director from Futura Medical said “Clinical research projects often run late and over budget. Parallel Project Training is offering some new and innovative approaches which can help to improve the certainty of delivery and significantly reduce costs based value management techniques applied successful in other sectors”
